Greetings from our chapter president:
I hope you’ve found your way to our website because you are already interested
in aviation in some way; there are a lot of us here that share your enthusiasm!
EAA chapters around the country tend to develop their own focus and lift up
some aspects of aviation particularly high. While our members do indeed build
experimental airplanes, restore antique airplanes and fly older (1940s vintage)
“warbirds”, the focus of Chapter 83 is more on flying together as a group. These
group flights, planned to accommodate the variety of size and speed in the
aircraft we fly, serve to discover new places, to make new aviation friends and to
reunite with old ones. Chapter 83 also uses our flying (and non-flying, for that
matter) get-togethers to trade observations on aircraft maintenance, update
ourselves on regulations, promote safety and general hangar talk ... often over a
meal.
If you’re a chapter member you should find fresh news about chapter activities
and events both here and on our chapter Facebook page. If you’re not yet a
member, we’d encourage you to come to one of our meetings and get to know
us! Or join us for lunch every Friday—we alternate between restaurants and the
current one is listed on the home page. I’m pretty sure you’ll find someone with
similar interests. Among the possibilities:
• Some members are licensed pilots who have built and fly an experimental
airplane
• Some members are pilots who own and fly certificated (factory built)
airplanes
• Some members are pilots who don’t currently have an airplane
• Some members aren’t yet pilots, but enjoy flight and take pleasure in being
around people who fly
• Some members are in their 20’s, some are in their 70’s and many are in
between
Since all members enjoy having passengers and with the cost of flying escalating,
the chapter makes a concerted effort to facilitate ride-sharing to our fly-out
events in the coming year. If you click on the “Forums” tab on our homepage,
you’ll find a place for pilots and passengers to get together. We have our monthly
meetings in Terre Haute, then usually fly someplace if the weather is good.
In short, if you’re an aviation enthusiast, Chapter 83 is a wonderful place to find
company!
